HCA anaesthetists are skilled in both ‘local/regional’ anaesthesia (which numbs a specific part of the body) and ‘general’ anaesthesia (which draws a patient into complete unconsciousness). HCA anaesthetists administer appropriate quantities of anaesthesia throughout procedures to accurately control the patient’s degree of numbness or unconsciousness.
